Atlas Team Leader Wesley van Zijp sheds light on decommissioning and how the company seamlessly integrates its current markets to this booming niche market
There are approximately 500 platforms in the entire North Sea, particularly in England, Norway, and the Netherlands. There are about 150 of these platforms on Dutch soil. With all its expertise as a human capital specialist in energy, marine and renewables, Atlas Professionals also supplies the right people in the right place in decommissioning projects.
Because Atlas has been supplying professionals throughout the entire life cycle of offshore projects for many years, the company is familiar with the different phases and specific requirements. This way, the company is proficient in providing candidates for a decommissioning project that has previously participated in commissioning it.
We know our business
Which competencies are important, what does the working environment look like, which certificates are required? With more than 40 years’ experience, Atlas knows the offshore projects well and can also provide added value in the decom phase says, Wesley van Zijp, Team Leader at Atlas Professionals. “Everything that has been installed with large equipment must also extracted at some point. Again, large equipment is needed, which must be able to lift a jacket or topside out of the water, for example, with specialist crews. So, we call on professionals who can improvise well. We have dedicated teams for all elements of a project lifecycle. Internally, the knowledge of projects is of course, shared with colleagues,” Wesley asserts.
Deck crew
“The platforms these companies use are usually converted jack-ups or semi-submersible drilling platforms. Refurbishing and converting these units to make them ready for plug and abandonment projects currently account for a sizeable portion of the industry's jobs. In this phase, we help with the traditional deck crew, such as Deckhands, Mechanics, Electricians, and Crane Operators,” Wesley says. Recently. Atlas assisted Well Safe Solutions with roustabouts, roughnecks, trade mechanical and electrical and BCO's in successful mobilisation of Well Safe Guardian.
