Atlas has entered into an agreement with CodaOctopus to create a pool of CodaOctopus certified Echoscope® Operators. The first successful training took place in April 2012 in our office in Newquay.
Echoscope® 3D sonar
The patented Echoscope® 3D sonar produces real time images of underwater environments. CodaOctopus recently launched its Technology Access Program (TAP™) under which it offers Echoscope® and its Underwater Inspection System™, software and trained personnel to the market at a day rate for long or short-term hire, backed up by CodaOctopus’ support and expertise.
Certified Echoscope® Operators
In order to allow CodaOctopus to meet the level of demand the popular TAP™ service is generating, Atlas Professionals has in collaboration with CodaOctopus created a pool of experienced sonar operators by providing a thorough hands-on training course on the installation, configuration and operation of the Echoscope®, and on the use of the Underwater Survey Explorer™ software which the Echoscope is used with. The first training course took place in April, with several experienced surveyors and multibeam experts having now graduated as certified Echoscope® Operators.
Positive first training
The training was led by Ben Hinett, Sales Manager at CodaOctopus. Ben was quoted as saying: “It was a strong team to work with. They picked it all up with the speed that one would expect of professional offshore survey personnel. My appraisal is that all trainees now have a solid foundation in Echoscope® installation, operation, replay and outputs.” Andrew Blears, Senior Account Manager at Atlas concluded: “Atlas is delighted to support CodaOctopus and their customers with the provision of specialist operators of the Echoscope® as we can see the potential benefits and opportunities with our specialist niche markets. Maintaining and developing the skills and competencies of our offshore workforce is among our key principles, and the Surveyors involved in this venture are eager to get to work with the system and put their training to the test!”
First Echoscope® Operator placed
The first trainee has successfully put his gained skills into practice. Our office in Newquay provided an Echoscope® Operator for Nautikaris B.V. in The Netherlands. He was involved in a cable-laying project in the North Sea, using an Echoscope® to monitor the touchdown of a wind farm power cable into a trench on the seabed. The operator was immediately able to visualize the cable’s catenary and touchdown point in three dimensions as it was being laid.
