Job description

Protected Species Monitoring:
- Conduct surveys and observations of protected species (marine mammals, sea turtles, seabirds, fish species) within the project’s area of impact, particularly during construction and operational phases.
- Implement monitoring protocols during high-risk activities (e.g., pile driving, vessel operations) to identify the presence of protected species and assess potential disturbances.

Compliance with Environmental Regulations:
- Ensure that all activities comply with applicable environmental laws, permits, and guidelines concerning protected species, including Endangered Species Act (ESA), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), and other local or international regulations.
- Work closely with environmental regulators and government agencies to ensure compliance and help prepare necessary documentation or reports.

Mitigation Implementation:
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies to avoid or minimize disturbance to protected species, including vessel speed restrictions, visual monitoring, shutdown zones, and other protective measures.
- Recommend adaptive management strategies if protected species are observed within the construction zone, including adjusting work schedules or halting activities temporarily.

Data Collection and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze field data on the presence, behavior, and movement of protected species, compiling this information into regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed records of monitoring activities, including any incidents involving protected species, and ensure the data is available for review by regulators and other stakeholders.
Job requirements
Certifications:- GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) – Required for working in the wind industry. It includes training in areas like fire awareness, manual handling, working at heights, and sea survival.
- HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) – For personnel working on offshore wind farms or offshore platforms, this training ensures the ability to safely evacuate a helicopter in case of an emergency landing in water.
- CST (Confined Space Training) – This certification is required for individuals working in confined spaces, such as those in turbine maintenance or underground facilities, ensuring safety during noise monitoring and mitigation activities in restricted environments.
- Medical – A valid medical certification is often required for offshore or safety-sensitive roles, ensuring the individual is physically fit for the challenging and potentially hazardous work environment.
