On Friday 26 October, eleven young Indigenous boys from the Yule Brook Clontarf Academy joined over forty Atlas Professionals staff and partners in a friendly soccer game at Langley Park in East Perth, Australia.

Atlas Professionals, and its Indigenous Training Coordinator Lauren Jakson in particular, have been involved with the Clontarf Foundation for over seven years. The Clontarf Foundation is an Australian organisation that exists to improve education, discipline, life-skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
The Foundation’s efforts have expanded from a single Academy school for 25 boys in 2000 until today when it caters for over 6,500 boys in 97 schools across Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Joining Clontarf and Atlas on the day were staff from KT Maritime, Maersk, TechnipFMC, Carnarvon Petroleum, Boskalis, Woodside, DOF Subsea, UTEC and Equinor.
Offshore industry involvement in Indigenous education and training
With such healthy numbers on the day, it was decided to mix the teams up and play fifteen a side. The game was played in fantastic spirit on the beautiful green grass of Langley Park, next to the spectacular Swan River. Some fantastic goals were scored. Year 7 Clontarf boy Matthew Bropho-Todd deserves a special mention for finishing the match with three goals to his name. Philip Huizenga from Carnarvon Petroleum was man of the match on the partner-company staff side. After the match, the boys were treated to a delicious sausage sizzle provided by the staff of Atlas Professionals.
The soccer game last week was not the first time that Atlas and partner company staff have joined Yule Brook Clontarf Academy boys in fun, outdoor activity. Last term the boys and Michael Goss, the director of Yule Brook, joined Atlas staff for a great game of cricket, also in Langley Park. Hopefully, these events will be just the start of a long tradition of Atlas and offshore industry involvement in Indigenous education and training efforts.
Basketball Game
On Friday 9 November, Atlas Professionals had the pleasure of once again hosting the director and 11 students of the Clontarf Yule Brooke Academy at the Perth Wildcats vs Brisbane Bullets game. The game was closely fought but thankfully the Wildcats bounced back in the last quarter to secure a win!
Shell-funded Aboriginal deck cadet Calvin Tolentino joined us at the game. Calvin is a great supporter of the Foundation and a strong positive influence on the students. Calvin is presently in Perth completing Basic Dynamic Positioning training before returning to Broome for his next vessel deployment. Upon completion of his cadetship, Calvin will be qualified to work across the globe.
