Calvin's Experience | Broome Indigenous Trainee and Cadet Partnership Program

Broome local Advanced Standing Deck Cadet (ASDC) Calvin Tolentino was recently deployed on board the Polarcus Naila, a seismic survey vessel currently conducting survey operations in the Timor Sea. Calvin’s deployment on the Polarcus Naila is part of his enrolment in the Broome Indigenous Trainee and Cadet Partnership Program.

This Shell funded program has provided KT Maritime Services Australia and Atlas Professionals the opportunity to collaborate and offer a fantastic opportunity for several individuals to train and become qualified to pursue a career offshore.

Calvin’s current assignment has included:

• Learning about the safe navigation of the vessel whilst acting as an officer of the watch;
• The operation and testing of all of bridge navigation equipment in accordance with the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS); and
• The operation and testing of all of the Vessel’s Lifesaving Appliances (LSA), Firefighting Appliances (FFA).

Calvin's Experience

Calvin has been actively involved and participating in all drills, small boat launch/recovery and resupply operations.

“All has been going well so far. I have been spending the majority of my time on the bridge with the 2nd mates. My tag book is most relevant.”
