Catering: Stock Inventory Management System

7 June 2018

Atlas Professionals seeks to continually improve its service offerings and, over the years, has identified a niche in the offshore catering market for reliable stock accuracy, resulting in better procurement controls. With this in mind, Atlas Professionals recently implemented a Stock Inventory Management System (SIMS) system on a large catering project in North Western Australia.
The objective of the SIMS system is to assist our team with stocktaking accuracy by reducing ordering errors and limiting paperwork and monitoring stock levels with a predesigned provisions order for the vessel.

Implementation of the SIMS system

Successful implementation of the system brought many challenges right from commencement of the project. Our dedicated team on board, along with SINWA and the program design team from 21st Century Solutions spent countless hours, days and months developing a system customised for use on the vessel and extendable to all future catering projects. The system takes advantage of modern technology, such as a portable computing and barcode scanning. The team on board had no difficulty picking up how to use these devices and the system.
For the past month, the system has been generating accurate stocktakes and weekly orders. This success is encouraging and we now look forward to expanding its use to other projects. It is important to acknowledge the team on board and the catering management team ashore for taking this first and import step towards improving our business with this initiative. Well done!
