Polarcus Naila Crew change – from Rick Sidrick, Chief Officer

7 March 2018

Project related:
There were some weather related challenges to overcome during our port call in Darwin. The heavy thunderstorms in Darwin made it difficult to work the crane on any kind of schedule and as a result our port call was extended.
The passage was largely uneventful. As expected we did have very calm weather coming down through the reef and this enabled us to accomplish a fair bit of painting on the gun deck. This is a difficult area to maintain as it is normally awash. It was a job well done by the deck crew to accomplish as much as they did in this area during a rather limited "window".
Once on the prospect there were a two specific challenges to face. The first was E.P. compliance. For this job the conditions of the environmental plan were even more restrictive than usual. The second challenge was shooting in shallow water. Many of the inshore lines were right on the edge in terms of water depth and it was quite stressful making certain we did not exceed minimum parameters. Everyone involved both bridge and seismic as well as the support vessels pulled together as a team to get the outcome we were looking for. As they say, "all is well that ends well".

Crew Change:
Crew change took place on Thursday 22nd February out of Sale, Victoria and was a huge success. The onsigners had an early start, travelling 3 hours by coach down to Sale from Melbourne. Once they arrived at the airport the ground staff organised the joining crew extremely well, and had the crew inducted, kitted up and on their allocated choppers like clockwork. The offsigners landed at the airport and eagerly jumped on the coach ready for their trip back to Melbourne. They had a great swing, fantastic crew; Atlas Professionals & Polarcus crew gelled very well and morale was high throughout the swing.
