Copenhagen-based Svitzer is ordering two more ASD tugs from Sanmar Shipyards to operate at Inpex’s Ichthys LNG project at the port of Darwin in Australia.
The two 80-tonne bollard pull RAstar 2800 terminal tugs will escort LNG carriers, LPG carriers and condensate carriers at the port of Darwin from late next year. They are fitted with a render-recovery winch, an aft winch, FIFI1 and an LNG package. Each has space for up to 10 crew.
Svitzer has already ordered six ASD tugs from Sanmar. It said the latest newbuildings are part of its “promise to support the expected increase in operational activity within the port of Darwin”.
The newbuildings will provide safety standby, emergency and environment incident response, firefighting, support for maintenance work on Inpex’s marine infrastructure and salvage within the port.
Svitzer employs more than 4,000 people. It has a fleet of more than 430 vessels and is a market-leader in towage and emergency response. The US$34 billion, 8.4 million tonne a year (mta) Ichthys LNG project is due to start production next year.
