On Tuesday 4th August, Tom Rainey and Lawrence Walters became the youngest team to row across the North Atlantic from America to the UK. After almost 100 days at sea, the two men broke two world records, including the fastest length rowed in 24 hours.
After being thrown 60 miles off course from the raging currents, Tom and Lawrence changed their grueling schedule to keep them heading on their North Eastern course. 24 hours later, team Ocean Valour managed to cover 112.5 nautical miles, breaking the current world record of 103nm, which was rowed by a crew of four people.
After capsizing twice and dealing with raging currents, the men had smiles on their faces as they were welcomed by hundreds of well-wishers in Salcombe harbour. Atlas Account Manager, Ash Theasby was there to greet the team: “It was a real privilege to be able to go and meet the guys returning and share in their celebrations. The level of support demonstrated for them by their families and the wider community was overwhelming and made for an electric atmosphere on their arrival. I think it was a real honour for Atlas to be involved in such an achievement and it was made very clear by themselves and their team that this was hugely appreciated and would not have been possible without it. A huge well done guys!”
Since they started from the New Jersey docks the team has managed to raise £67,133.55 for the Brain Tumour Charity. If you wish to donate to their cause, please click on the following link where you will be re-directed to their JustGiving page.
Atlas is proud to be one of the official sponsors for Team Ocean Valour and we wish to congratulate them on their epic voyage and all their efforts in the aid of charity.
