With Visitor Numbers up 29%, Atlas Attends another Successful Event at Ocean Business 2015

29 April 2015

The Oceanography Centre in Southampton played host to the biennial event, Ocean Business. This year, numbers were up 29% with 4589 visitors walking through the front gates. With over 350 companies in attendance and 180 hours of training and demonstration sessions, the event was a success for visitors and exhibitors alike.

Through Atlas’ interactive station, visitors were introduced to the variety of offshore survey projects and jobs Atlas are involved with. Visitors were able to see the vessels and projects that the offshore survey team have supplied personnel for.

The offshore survey team also caught up with some familiar faces at the exhibition, from our contractors who were visiting the event to some of our clients who were also exhibiting. Sam Hanton, Director of Survey at Nautronix caught up with the Atlas team.

Over the years our collaboration with Atlas has been successsful. Nautronix use Atlas because we feel that there is a commitment to understanding our requirements and supplying high quality personnel who are right for the job.  We provide detailed requirements and Atlas seem to know their personnel well, ensuring that candidates’ skills match our expectations with an honest assessment of their suitability.

There seems to be good loyalty and consistency from the personnel that come through Atlas, and we see Atlas’ commitment to an IMCA aligned competency scheme as a very positive move.  Providing competent personnel is key to our success, and we know from experience that we can trust Atlas as a proactive and professional supplier of survey personnel. - Sam Hanton – Director of Survey Nautronix

Survey Selfies

Atlas was also playing host to its own event, our selfie competition. Over the three days we had some interesting entries, from visitors and exhibitors, to create the most creative selfie at the event. On the final day the team decided that the winner of the competition was university student Florence Stewart, who created a selfie video which included a variety of quirky selfies from visitors and exhibitors. Florence took home the prize of the Gopro HERO4 camera.  Click here to view the winning entry.

Director Andrew Blears also attended the event, “Ocean Business has always been a major event in our calendar due to its specific focus, technical programme and its intimate and personal style. In our business, it’s all about the people, and it was great to meet so many who have worked with us over the years. Now it’s time for us to follow up on the opportunities and ensure that we do our best in supporting both our clients and professionals’ needs both now and in the future.

One of our Account Managers, Chris Girdlestone, explains the importance about being at Ocean Business. “I always enjoy Ocean Business, it is one of the more intimate expos for the offshore industry, but this is a good thing, as it allows global businesses to meet up to discuss, share and reminisce about old times. I find that the best part about this industry is the people working within it, and having the opportunity to meet up and chat with clients and professionals who are too far away to share a coffee and a cupcake with. Despite the recent challenges the market is facing, it is inspiring to spend time with people who are passionate, enthused and genuinely interested in this industry, it reinforces the reason why I have enjoyed working within his sector. Thank you to everyone who turned up at our stand and met with us, it means a lot and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.”

South West Surveys (SWS) also attended the event, to represent Atlas’ Offshore Management and Quality Control business line. “We were very pleased to see a large number of our consultants at the show who are furthering their knowledge and professional development by attending lectures and talking to other industry experts,” says Director of South West Surveys Damian Francis. “Events such as Ocean Business are invaluable sources for industry news and information about future and current projects and generate interesting discussions about the market amongst the visitors.”

Overall, the event was a success; Ocean Business was a great event for catching up with our clients and contractors, discovering new technologies in the industry and showing the visitors how Atlas can help them in the next step in their careers.
