Job description

The Principal Specialist Mechanical is to work within the guidelines of the clients Management Policy, Standard Operating Procedures, Methodologies and Checklists.


The Principal Specialist, Mechanical shall be responsible for the following main tasks and activities:

  • Review and understand company generated materials and instructions with regards to Client audit requirements i.e. Project Journal
  • Review and understand Client generated materials and instructions with regards to Client audit requirements i.e. Client Policy and Procedure, Drilling Program, etc.
  • Confirm availability of applicable and relevant information and reference materials necessary to conduct the audit i.e. API, IMO, OEM, ISO, Classification, etc.
  • Identify gaps in audit checklists (TRAMS adx) in satisfying Client audit requirements; advise and assist assigned Project Engineer in developing checklists as required. This includes production of acceptance and integration testing plans. 
  • Acting as the responsible discipline mechanical Specialist within the audit team, advise, assist and report progress to the Lead Auditor on the mechanical aspects of the audit to enable test schedule creation and monitor. 
  • Acting as the responsible discipline mechanical Specialist within the audit team, conduct inspection tasks in accordance with ISO19011 on the mechanical rig equipment to include visual inspection (internal and external as required), record dimensional check information, witness of operations of equipment, witness system integration testing, conduct interviews with auditees, review certification records and review maintenance records.
  • Acting as the responsible discipline mechanical Specialist within the audit team, report findings from inspection tasks as per the requirements of ADC’s report writing guidelines. The Lead Auditor assumes responsibility for the preparation of the DRAFT report; the delivery to the ADC Office may be deputised to a member of the audit team.
  • Participate as required in audit meetings; as a minimum attendance to opening and closing meetings are a minimum expectation.

  • Identify the need for, and participate in the preparation of, requests for dispensation from established procedures - should this be required for contingency reasons.

Main Interfaces:
CompanyThe Mechanical Principal Specialist will liaise with the following in relation to the following matters.

  • Lead Auditor – primary contact with respect to all points arising during the conductance of the audit.
  • Project Engineer – office based support for technical clarification and information/document requests. Assumes responsibility for travel and accommodation.
  • Engineering Manager- Oversees conductance of company audits.
  • Directors- Managerial issues.

External
Dependent on project requirements, the Mechanical Principal Specialist may be required to liaise with operational, technical and managerial personnel from Company, Contractor and/or Governmental organizations.


Working Conditions:
The Principal Specialist Mechanical is expected to work world-wide in a variety of conditions. These may include the following:

  • Land based or offshore sites.
  • Various outdoor conditions from high heat and humidity to extreme cold conditions. 
  • Indoor work environment may vary from noisy and hot machinery spaces to quiet air conditioned offices.
  • At heights – ADC does not employ rope access techniques and all inspections are conducted from suitable and safe access platforms and/or ladders.
  • Confined space – when adequate controls, equipment and training are in place.

Job requirements

Qualifications & Experience:
The job holder must have

  • Valid Offshore Medical Certificates (examples: OGUK, OEUK, Chester Step Test, Norwegian, etc.)
  • Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training and Emergency Breathing System – BOSIET + CAEBS
  • SCQF Level 6 Qualification in Understanding Rig Inspection
    • Understanding Drilling Equipment – IADC Accredited
    • Understanding Dropped Objects – IADC Accredited
    • Understanding Well Control – IWCF Accredited
  • Inoculation Record (Yellow Book)
  • Valid ID / Passport

Required Competencies:
Essential:
·        Proven Leadership ability.
·        Computer literate, capable of producing technical reports, and organising/analysing data.
·        Broad knowledge in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and electronic systems.
·        Electronic systems technical experience
·        Excellent interpersonal skills.
·        Above average skills in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
·        Fluent in English language.
·        Right to live and work in the UK
Physical requirements
·        Not colour blind.
·        Capable of climbing high ladders
 
Psychological requirements

  • Does not suffer from vertigo or claustrophobia.

 
Desirable
·        Degree level education or equivalent in related field.
·        20 years’ experience in relevant field.
·        Chief Engineer level or equivalent.
·        Experience in operation and maintenance of power, drilling, hoisting and marine systems.
·        Background in test and evaluation of complex systems.
·        Team player, capable of liaising with operational, technical and professional personnel from Company, Client and Governmental organisations.
