New Requirement for Travel to the UK: Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

From 2nd April, travellers to the UK will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Applications can be submitted from 5th March. If you're planning a trip to the UK, be sure to apply in advance to avoid any travel disruptions.

What is an ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is an online authorisation for those travelling to the UK, required for everyone except:

  • UK / Ireland Passport holders
  • UK Visa holders

How much does an ETA cost and what is it’s validity?

  • An ETA costs 10 GBP and permits multiple journeys to the UK for stays of up to six months at a time. 
  • ETA’s are valid for two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever is sooner.

When can an ETA be applied for and when will they be required for entry?

  • Specified Countries below: Required now for entry. 
  • Non-Europeans: Can apply from November 2024, required from 8th January 2025
  • Europeans: Can apply from March 2025, required from 2nd April 2025

How long it takes?

You will usually get a decision within 3 working days. Most people get a much quicker decision. Occasionally, it may take longer than 3 working days.
