Preparing for an interview can be a nerve-racking experience. As an international recruitment company, we have an essential interview guide to bring your closer to your dream offshore job
Interviews can be stressful. How do you make sure that you are well prepared? Together, with our personnel coordinators, we are happy to help. Here are some of the most important things to consider while preparing for an interview for an offshore job – whether you are a Greenhand roustabout or an experienced professional.
It is crucial to emphasize that as an offshore aspirant, you will need to be able to prove that you have the ability and knowledge to undertake the required employment but also the personal skills. Successful, competent offshore employees are team players, able to resolve conflicts that arise with colleagues calmly and sensibly and are organised about their lives and work. Candidates need to be able to take responsibility for their work and communicate clearly with others at all levels.
Grab your pens and paper and make a note of these interview preparation tips. In this edition, we are discussing doing research and analysis.
Analyse the job posting thoroughly
Read the job posting multiple times to determine what the employer is looking for in a candidate. Then put together a list of skills, knowledge, professional and personal qualities that are required by the employer and are most important for success in the job. Make sure you can describe the attributes that make you the perfect match for the job.
Write down those keywords you want to stress during the interview. The closer your qualifications match the job requirements, the better chance you will have of getting a second-round interview and a job offer. Remember those essential elements for working offshore are safety and risk assessments, attitude, and commitment.
Do your research
Many employers feel confident about candidates who ask thoughtful questions about the company and the position. You should take time before the interview to prepare several questions for your interviewer(s) that show you have researched the company and are well-versed about the position. Questions like Can you share more about the day-to-day responsibilities of my role and what are the biggest challenges one may face in the role will show the recruiter that you are keen on knowing more about the job profile. This will surely earn you some brownie points.
Check out the website of the organization you are applying for so you know what they do, and you know how you can contribute. It is recommended that you look at the mission, vision, and values of a company, as well as the safety section. Next to this, make sure you know who is sitting in front of you and what they can do for you during the hiring process. Is it a recruiter from an agency who will decide if they are going to introduce you to the client, or are you already at an interview with the organization and do you have a decision-maker in front of you? Google and LinkedIn are your best friends.
