Atlas has an ongoing commitment to supporting professional development within the offshore and Hydrographic community. In line with this and coupled with our wish to establish and maintain links with professional training bodies, Atlas recently provided a guest lecture to Cat B Hydrographic students at Skilltrade BV in the Netherlands.
Interactive learning
The lecture covered the curriculum requirements for Acoustic positioning, which touches on Acoustic Theory, ultra short baseline systems (USBL) and long baseline systems (LBL). The course also offered an introduction to Inertial Navigation Systems; which are becoming an increasingly more commonplace system used by Hydrographic surveyors. The lecture was based on both existing theories and sharing daily practices in an interactive way. The lecture was delivered not only to students on the course, but professionals from the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and the USA.
Education for all
The provision of guest lectures is another way for Atlas Professionals to stay in close contact with both students and professionals within the Hydrographic community. Darioosh Naderi, Account Manager/Technical Consultant at Atlas and guest lecturer at Skilltrade BV, states: “It is education for us as well; you always get to learn new things. Lecturing makes you rethink your understanding of the requirements within the industry and it provides reflection on what we are about and what we can do for our people”.
Skilltrade BV
Johan Stam, Managing Director at Skilltrade BV, states: “We are pleased that both Darioosh Naderi and Atlas lectured c.q. supported this subject during our Hydrographic Survey Category B module in Rotterdam”. Skilltrade BV has specialised in the provision of worldwide hydrographic training courses since 2000. If you are interested in their course planning, please go to www.skilltrade.nl.
