In 2017, Solstad Offshore was awarded a subcontract with McDermott for the provision of light construction vessel services. The CSV Normand Reach was deployed to the Ichthys gas field development off the west coast of Australia. We spoke to Managing Director of Solstad Offshore Crewing Services, Odd Skei, to discuss the project.
Ichthys project
“The main task was to prepare for and install two units in the Ichthys Gas field,” says Odd. “One unit was a processing unit (CPE) and the other one was a FPSO. The project was awarded to McDermott and they used the Norwegian company Ocean Installer to complete the installation by using the Normand Vision. Normand Reach was first in the field doing the preparation work. They were both mobilized from the North Sea to do this 70-90 days project in Australia. The NOR Australis was also engaged in the project for a shorter period.”
Most advanced CSV vessel
In 2014, Solstad and Reach Subsea teamed up to build the CSV Normand Reach. The vessel started a 5 year firm charter with Reach Subsea ASA. The Ichthys gas field is the most recent project for the vessel. Both Normand Vision and Normand Reach are among the most advanced CSV's in the market today.
A great cooperation
Solstad reached out to Programmed Marine and the Atlas team in Perth to source a specialist crew. “The majority of the crew on board Normand Vision and Normand Reach were Australian and the rest were Norwegians; the entire Australian crew was provided by Programmed and Atlas. The cooperation between the Norwegian and Australian crew went very well and was a great success. The preparation done for the crew in Batam during the mobilization was an important activity which resulted in the very good cooperation between the crew. Programmed and Atlas provided a first class marine crew to all three vessels. Both teams delivered a professional service to support the crew and were proactive in providing a cost-effective solution which benefited both companies.”
