23 November 2012
From 12 till 15 November Hydro12 took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, providing a platform to bring together hydrographic specialists from around the world. During this conference Atlas provided a tutorial session about the basics in hydrographic surveying.
Tutorial
During a two hours session Agust Magnusson, a Consultant Hydrographer at Atlas, introduced general survey set ups, inshore survey, importance of survey strategy for safety & data quality and environmental effects on survey data. A total of 15 enthusiastic second grade Hydrography students of the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz at Terschelling participated in this course.
Real examples
Agust is Hydrographic Surveyor for more than 16 years and has worked permanently at Atlas for 2.5 years. Agust: “It was interesting to teach students and provide them with real examples, they asked some good questions and were motivated to become hydrographic surveyors in the near future. The students told us that they found it an interesting and interactive course, especially the real examples of surveys and the discussions about it were appreciated.”
Hydro12
During the three day conference & exhibition updates were given on hydrographic surveys, techniques, processing and post-processing. Preliminary figures show that this year’s event has attracted around 400 delegates from 25 countries. Our colleagues from the Newquay office were present on the exhibition to inform visitors about our hydrographic personnel services worldwide. Andrew Blears, Manager of Atlas’ Survey personnel division: “The hydrographic world is a small, but this exhibition was good for networking and maintaining our contacts in the industry. It gave us some interesting insights into some topics and industry concerns which help us to improve and expand our services worldwide”.
