The first power from the 600MW Gemini offshore wind farm being constructed off the coast of the Netherlands could be produced by the end of this month, a spokesperson for the Gemini Windpark told Offshore WIND.
The Gemini’s first Siemens 4MW turbine is being installed today, Judith Achterberg, Gemini Windpark’s Communications Manager said, adding that the turbine will probably be connected to the grid in the next several days.
Last Friday, Van Oord’s offshore wind installation vessel Aeolus left the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark to deliver six turbines to be installed at the site, some 85 kilometers north of the Dutch province of Groningen.
Once fully commissioned in 2017, the wind farm will generate enough power to meet the needs of around 785,000 households.
