In order to comply with the 'Manila Amendments' to the STCW Convention,  Atlas is already offering mandatory training to Helmsmen, Duty Officers and Captains with a 12-month contract or a contract for an indefinite period.

ECDIS and Ship Security Officer

The selected candidates are taking part in both an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) and a Ship Security Officer (SSO) training. ECDIS is an electronic charting system being used worldwide by more and more vessels. It is a powerful navigation tool that makes use of 2D hard-copy maps. All Captains and Deck Officers stationed onboard a vessel equipped with ECDIS must be able to work with this system. Ship Security Officer training is primarily for officers involved with security onboard seafaring vessels larger than 500GT. The training consists of both theoretical and practical lessons, paying attention to ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) regulations, security systems and communication during emergency situations.

Approved Certificate

At present nine candidates have already completed the training successfully within five days and have been presented with an approved certificate. Seventeen more candidates will shortly be following their example.
