The Hakuryu 11 Jack-Up based in Indonesia was built and designed in 2013 by Singapore Company Keppel FELS. With a drilling depth of 35,000 ft, the Jack-Up was commissioned by Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC) to add to their fleet of self-elevating cantilever Jack-Up drilling rigs. The project was launched in Q2 of 2014 and was in need of 40 professionals to crew the Jack-Up.
After working with Atlas on previous projects, JDC approached Atlas’ Director of India Kevin Dias. “I was the point of contact for this project, Atlas’ Commercial Director Paul Steeghs and I met the client in Vietnam. After a successful meeting with the client, all the information we discussed was forwarded to the main offices in Hoofddorp. During our collaboration with JDC, we developed a good relationship with their Operations Manager. Overall, we received great feedback from the client due to the support of the crew logistics team based in Mumbai.”
The challenge presented to Atlas was to provide the personnel within a 3-4 week deadline. After final negotiations were settled in Vietnam, Atlas got together with its partner AAPL Indonesia Crew in Jakarta, who began the search for well trained, motivated and local crew for the Hakuryu 11. By appointing a dedicated team, AAPL did an impressive job in supplying the 40 professionals that were needed for the project in time, and their 40 back-to-back crew. AAPL arranged the massive pre-mobilisation training, and set up a payroll for the workers which included the insurances that were required.
“In the future I hope Atlas will be able to develop an even stronger relationship with JDC, as this will be huge for Atlas. It will bring in new projects for our offices based in Jakarta in Indonesia and Singapore in Singapore City.”
