On the 8th January, the Pieter Schelte arrived in Rotterdam. With a length of 382 meters and a phenomenal width of 124 meters, this is the biggest ship in the world. It was designed and developed by the Dutch-Swiss offshore company Allseas.
The Pieter Schelte will spend the next four months in Rotterdam undergoing final assembly in the inner lake of Maasvlakte 2.
Along with some other refinements, support beams will be fitted to the ship that will reach 65 meters in length. Due the ship’s magnitude, a pit has been dredged to hold the vessel in Rotterdam.
The total cost of the vessel’s construction is estimated at €700 million which involved 440 different Dutch companies during its development.
