Survey sessions on water huge success

On 5-7 April 2011 the third Ocean Business was hosted by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in the UK and Atlas Services Group UK were pleased to be there. Records were broken for the third time in a row as the event grew not only in terms of the number of exhibiting companies, visitors and vessels present but also in physical size.

We were a little nervous to begin with as the Great British Weather did its best to dampen spirits by throwing in some windy and rainy conditions – not the best conditions for us to demonstrate our capabilities on the water! Atlas were dockside on a catamaran that we fitted out with the latest versions of Qinsy nav software, Reson 8125 Multibeam and a Pos MV. Atlas Surveyors were on hand to show students from Plymouth and Southampton Universities, clients and professional surveyors our capabilities to teach principles of mobilisation, seamanship and Multibeam calibration & troubleshooting. These sessions were a huge success (especially as the sun came out!!) and we had to run several extra sessions to cope with demand. Our thanks and gratitude go out to GSE Rentals, QPS BV, Applanix and everyone involved in making this happen!

During the Exhibition we not only received a huge number of enquiries about our services and training programmes, but several clients and equipment suppliers have asked us to provide training to new recruits or Advanced Training to specialists in the latest technology developments. We were pleased to make placements at the show, with a Skipper starting work for a client in Europe, a Data Processor going to a dredging project in Russia, and mobilising a Senior Surveyor to assist on a 2D high resolution site survey in the North Sea, from the stand to the vessel within 18 hours!

Over 4,000 sq-m of temporary structures were erected to host 311 exhibiting companies from 24 countries. This years event saw 3176 people through the door from 52 countries making it a real success for the Atlas Services Group!
