Atlas lecture at Nova College in Hoofddorp

3 November 2014

Darioosh Naderi, Business Manager for Offshore Survey & Construction at Atlas Professionals, was in the Netherlands this week at the Nova College in Hoofddorp lecturing as part of the IHO Cat B Hydrographic course run by Skilltrade BV.The lectures were for hydrography students studying towards their IHO Cat B qualification, and industry professionals alike on the topic of subsea positioning.
“Some of our clients have extensive experience in the industry however they may have some staff who haven’t been heavily involved in some aspects of underwater positioning. This lecture allows them to get an overview of this area of operations, or top up on their existing knowledge. In some cases, these individuals may have some experience, but just want to be in an environment with like minded professionals where they can share ideas and experiences.”

The lecture is a great way for Atlas to help the students and existing professionals broaden, or strengthen their knowledge in the field of Hydrographic Surveying. “I think it is important for people to share their knowledge and experiences for the benefit of others. In this area, Atlas has the capability and privilege to help pass on this knowledge and we should not ignore this opportunity.” Mark Spronkmans was one of the lecture’s attendees, “It was a very interesting talk. I’ve worked in surveying for five years but going over the basics again is definitely a good thing. I think Darioosh is a good speaker as he uses his own experience to guide us through the presentations.”

Darioosh integrates his own experience into the lecture helping him to engage with both professionals and students, “Instead of just teaching theory it allows me to give examples of practical applications where the theory has been proven,” says Darioosh, “I try to ensure that it can all be related to the industry or sector from which the attendees are from whether its Inshore Surveying, Offshore Surveying or even relating to applications of the Dredging Industry.”

The lecture seemed to go down well with both the students and professionals, “I’m happy to learn everything again,” says Fugro employee Kenneth Dhorai, “it’s good to be back in a lecture room.”
