Why this position, and why this industry?

“One of the most important things that attracted me to this job was the opportunity to travel and see new places. This makes it quite satisfying. I also enjoy the teamwork aspect of this position; I like collaborating with colleagues and assisting them in operations while providing accurate data in order to complete the overall mission successfully.”

How would you describe your job?

"Working as an online surveyor entails a large variety of complex tasks that involve verifying all documents that must be delivered to the captain and understanding the work’s scope by using a copy of the DWG files. Another task is checking the Geodesy of Navigation and preparing the paperwork for constructions. During construction operations it is important to carefully record the work phases in the logbook and preserve accuracy (e.g. time and work descriptions). What I also do is insert sailing routes in combination with storing waypoints during the ROV and/or survey with divers. And finally, I need to prepare all daily reports and get them signed.”

And the Offshore Survey & Construction industry?

“This industry is quite demanding. An advantage here is that this encourages me to keep developing professionally. Currently, I am studying to increase my knowledge of equipment and software by attending an EIVA training course in Aberdeen about Qinsy-Winfrog and HIPAP software.”

Thinking of progressing your career?

“My personal character is defined by progression; I tend to take any possible opportunity that allows me to progress career-wise. In the past, experiences taught me that every transaction or process requires full attention. This has opened my eyes to seek skills in  completely new areas, such as economics”.

What have the highlights been so far?

“For me, the biggest highlight is my career progression. I am thankful that I have been able to work with a wide variety of companies that have helped me to better understand this fascinating industry.”
