One Billion Euros. That is the total investment for the DanTysk offshore wind farm currently being built in the German North Sea. Eighty Wind Turbine Generators will produce 288 MW, generating enough green energy to supply 400,000 homes. Atlas provides a wide range of maritime professionals for this unique and extremely challenging project.
Location, location, location
The DanTysk offshore wind farm, situated west of the island of Sylt just off the German-Danish border, will be one of the first large-scale offshore wind farms ever to be built in the German North Sea. The close proximity to the Danish border is reflected in the facility’s name. It’s a combination of the Danish words ‘Dan’ for Danmark and ‘Tysk’ for Tyskland (Germany in Danish), which underscores the unifying, cross-border nature of this project. The location of DanTysk also means working in waters of considerable depths. This unforgiving environment places special demands on technology, logistics, and operations. North Sea weather is notoriously treacherous, but regardless, construction work must continue. The many challenges that occur throughout the project will be dealt with by an experienced team with a pioneering spirit using special technology, machines, and tools.
Atlas’ contribution
This extensive wind farm project will be built in stages, which will involve building the foundation, laying the cables, installing the substation, and assembling the wind turbines. At each stage, Atlas will supply professionals for a wide range of positions, such as client representatives, heavy lift supervisors, heavy lift crane operators, riggers, E&I supervisors, E&I designers, superintendents, 2nd engineers, and DP officers. Atlas feels privileged to be playing such an active role in this unique project by providing such a diverse and highly-qualified team of professionals.
