Our client is hiring for ABs to join the crew of their offshore wind installation vessel. Applicants must be US CITIZENS.

Job description

  • Work as a member of the navigation department on board the vessel carrying out watchkeeping duties under the instruction of the First Officer.
  • Maintaining the safety and security of the vessel in conjunction with the Ship Security Officer and the Ship Safety Officer.
  • Undertaking a range of practical seafarer skills covering ropework, anchoring and mooring activities and vessel operations.
  • Adhering to safe and environmentally responsible working practices and international regulations, without endangering themselves, others or the marine environment.
  • Work safely in enclosed spaces and at heights.
  • Responding to vessel emergencies; administering emergency first aid; carrying out fire prevention and fire-fighting duties; using survival techniques in the water; and operating survival craft and rescue boats.
  • Liaise with the Deck Foreman and other vessel crew to ensure that at all time rigging, slinging or maintenance works are coordinated under the instruction of the Deck Foreman.
  • In conjunction with the Deck Foreman assisting with the choice of slinging technique appropriate to the characteristics of the load and the intended lift.
  • Identify difficulties in slinging and moving loads and clarify them with the appropriate person(s).
  • In conjunction with the Deck Foreman select slinging equipment and confirm that it’s suitability for the load(s) to be lifted. • Report defects and faults with slinging equipment, to the Deck Foreman.
  • In conjunction with the Deck Foreman and other members of the deck crew prepare and sling loads appropriate to the slinging technique chosen.
  • In conjunction with the Deck Foreman and other members of the deck crew confirm that the support and balance of the slung load is satisfactory, and that it is secured prior to movement.
  • Ensure that all vessel equipment is in a condition complying with the applicable regulations.
  • Ensure that all client and third-party equipment meets vessel safety standards.
  • Cooperate and contribute to Toolbox Talks and Task Risk Assessments and ensure that these are carried out, wherever appropriate.
  • Develop and contribute to shared knowledge principles and practices.
  • Assist in identifying, developing and disseminating Best Practices across the vessels.
  • Maintain the highest standard of vessel housekeeping within area of responsibility.
  • Assist with all duties as per station bill.

Job requirements

  • Must hold US citizenship
  • Must hold valid AB USCG endorsement
