Our client is seeking a Second Officer with experience on large vessels to join the crew of their offshore wind installation vessel. Please note, this position is only open to US nationals. The Second Officer will also serve as the Security Officer onboard.

Job description

  • Responsible for assisting with the safe, cost-effective and efficient loading/unloading, storing and sea-fastening of goods in holds or on deck.
  • Checking of all manifests against goods received and liaison with the Chief Engineer, Master / OIM, client, and third parties to ensure all relevant spares / materials delivered to the vessel are made available to the end user as soon as practicable.
  • Ensure that all goods are received and handled in accordance with COSHH, Dangerous Goods by Air and Sea, HM Customs and Excise Legislation.
  • Ensure that all relevant data sheets, certificates are accurate and relate to the appropriate equipment, ensure detailed records are kept of materials used.
  • Ensure that accurate manifests are produced for all back loaded materials / equipment including, where applicable, an explanation of the actions to be carried out when the items arrive onshore.
  • Assisting with the preparation of draft and stability calculations.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient running of the deck department.
  • Watch duty including acting as DP Operator and Senior Officer of The Bridge Watch when on watch.
  • Ensure continual usage of all marine safety equipment including its ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure the safe and cost-effective operational and functional capability of the vessel dynamic positioning system.
  • Provide assistance to the client as requested in a timely and professional manner as instructed by the Master.
  • Assist with the implementation and compliance with relevant parts of the Integrated Management System within the deck department.
  • Ensure that proper records and logs are kept as required by legislation, classification authorities and internal procedures.
  • Assist with ensuring that all client and third-party equipment meets vessel safety standards.
  • Assist with the development of operations philosophies, strategies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the vessel permit to work system is operated in a diligent manner and that the methodology of the permit to work system is fully understood.
  • Cooperate and contribute to Toolbox Talks and Task Risk Assessments and ensure that these are carried out, where ever appropriate.
  • Have appropriate understanding of the vessels current Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Compile accurate and informative handover notes between shifts.

Job requirements

  • Must hold US citizenship or green card
  • Must hold valid USCG endorsement (unlimited)
  • Must be willing to obtain necessary offshore certifications for project
