Job description

Install, repair, and maintain electrical systems on boats and ships, including wiring, control panels, lighting, and navigation systems.

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Inspect marine electrical systems and components for compliance with regulations and standards (e.g., ABS, USCG).

Diagnose electrical problems using test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes.

Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance.

Ensure that work complies with safety protocols and maritime electrical codes.

Collaborate with other technicians and shipbuilders during vessel construction or refitting.

Keep accurate records of repairs, installations, and maintenance.
Job requirements

High school diploma or GED required; technical training or associate degree in electrical systems preferred.

Certification from an accredited marine electrician program or relevant journeyman status is a plus.

Minimum 2–3 years of experience in marine or industrial electrical work.

Familiarity with AC/DC systems, generators, switchboards, and circuit protection systems.

Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work in a team.

Understanding of maritime safety and environmental regulations.
