Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Test and maintain communication equipment (SSB, VHF, UHF, Epirb, Sart, visual signaling equipment, etc.) according to the required schedule.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on radio communication equipment and accessories, including antennas, batteries, converters, etc.

  • Maintain the Radio Communication Logbook.

  • Provide the Captain with weather forecasts, navigational warnings, emergency communications from other vessels, time signals, or any other relevant communication.

  • Report any malfunctions of the vessel's radio equipment to the First Officer.

  • Keep the Radio Room organized and clean, ensuring the proper functioning of backup equipment, tools, measurement devices, publications, manuals, forms, and materials.

  • Maintain an updated inventory of all materials, both fixed and consumable, for which the Radio Room is responsible.

  • Assist during inspections and surveys of radio equipment, providing requested information.

  • Request and deliver supplies for the Radio Station to the First Officer.

  • Archive messages, radiotelex, radio communications receipts, weather reports, navigational warnings, and other relevant documents.

  • Make and respond to international communications, when applicable.

  • Supervise and guide repairs of radio equipment done by shore workshops.

  • Provide continuous radio communication service on appropriate frequencies during your shifts.

  • Ensure all relevant information is passed on during shift handover.

  • Identify and respond to distress signals.

  • Stay informed about new regulations and rules related to your duties.

  • Keep GMDSS publications updated.

  • Stay informed about the client's contractual terms and contingency plans.

  • Maintain crew and passenger records on board and keep the personnel list updated.

  • Communicate with port operators regarding ETA or ETD.

  • Prepare documentation for port clearances.

  • Be familiar with access control procedures for various protection levels.

  • Assist in monitoring the validity of certificates for the equipment under your responsibility.

  • Ensure your "Seafarer's Health Certificate" is valid and renewed before expiration.

Job requirements

• High School with a certificate issued by an educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC); • Radiotelephone Operator Restricted Training, with a certificate issued by ANATEL; • Certificate of the Restricted GMDSS Operator Course, issued by a training institution accredited by DPC or a foreign institution in compliance with the IMO – International Maritime Organization; • Certificate of the Radiotelephone Operator Course for Maritime Platforms - CNS 014- EPTA CAT “M”, according to DECEA - Department of Airspace Control; • Valid RPM CHT in the LPNA system; • Certificate of Competence and Flag Book issued by the Flag of the Maritime Unit, with the qualification of General Operator – GMDSS (MOU) – Radiotelephone Operator; • Personal Air Navigation License (LPNA) as RPM, published in the LPNA system; • Proficiency in Portuguese and intermediate knowledge of English; • ASO (Occupational Health Certificate) with indication of clearance for offshore work; • CBSP Certificate – Basic Offshore Platform Safety Course, issued by a DPC-accredited institution or Unified TBS-1 Certificate (1034) – Certificate proving participation in 04 (four) trainings: Personal Survival, Fire Fighting, First Aid, Personal Safety, and Personal Responsibility; • Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (T-HUET), mandatory at a training center certified by OPITO; • Flag Certification, at least the following special qualifications: • AFF (Advanced Firefighting), corresponding to CACI (Advanced Fire Fighting Course); • PSCRB (Proficient in Survival Craft), corresponding to CESS (Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Course); • FRB (Fast Rescue Boat), corresponding to CERR (Fast Rescue Boats Course). • NR-37 Course (Basic).
