Job description

Job Summary:
The Bosun is responsible for supervising the deck crew and, as their Team Leader, acts as the liaison between them and the Chief Officer. Additionally, the Bosun is responsible for operating the crane within safe working limits.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Hold daily meetings with the Chief Officer.

  • Understand and comply with all relevant sections of the company’s policies and management system.

  • Responsible for deck cargo operations and ensuring that the decks, cargo spaces, and storage areas under their responsibility are secure at all times.

  • Comply with maintenance requirements for deck machinery as instructed by the Chief Officer and perform planned maintenance procedures when necessary.

  • Keep the Chief Officer informed about the progress of any work being performed and any defects or issues encountered within their area of responsibility.

  • Participate as HLO on the helideck during helicopter operations.

  • Participate at the front or rear during docking and undocking operations, ensuring the safety of anchors when the port is clear.

  • Maintain an inventory of stocks under their responsibility and inform the Chief Officer of any materials or consumables needed.

  • Assist the project team as necessary and maintain communication with the Chief Officer.

  • Maintain safety standards for the crew and deck areas.

  • Assist in the general maintenance of accommodation areas by performing general carpentry, plumbing, painting, and other repairs.

  • Be familiar with their responsibilities in emergency situations and ensure those under their control also adhere to the company’s procedures, policies, and instructions.

  • Act as a Crane Operator and, when appropriate, perform a visual inspection of the cranes at the beginning of each shift as prescribed in the company’s crane operation policy.

  • Manage stock levels and issue and request general consumable items from the central warehouse.

  • Assist in tank cleaning operations.

  • Assist in lifting operations as instructed.

  • Assist in operations with supply vessels as necessary.

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Chief Officer.

  • Assist the Chief Officer in monitoring lifting devices, running equipment, slings, shackles, etc., including the quarantine locker.

Job requirements

Lifeboat (Bosun)

CBSP Certificate – Basic Offshore Platform Safety Course, issued by an institution accredited by DPC or Unified TBS-1 Certificate (1034) – Certificate proving participation in 04 (four) trainings:
Personal Survival, Fire Fighting, First Aid, Personal Safety, and Personal Responsibility;
• ASO (Occupational Health Certificate) with indication of clearance for offshore work;
• Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (T-HUET), conducted mandatorily at a training center certified by OPITO;
• Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Course (CESS) or equivalent (ESPM), issued by an institution accredited by DPC;
• Intermediate Training for Lifeboat Operators (TICB). This is an intermediate training that must be completed 2.5 years after completing the CESS. Upon the renewal of the CESS, which is valid for
5 years, it is not necessary to renew the TICB as well. The TICB should only be renewed 2.5 years after the renewal of the CESS;
• Proficiency in Portuguese.
