Job description
A QMED (Qualified Member of the Engine Department) is a professional working on a merchant vessel who is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems. Some of the key responsibilities of a QMED include:
- Monitoring and maintaining the ship's machinery, including engines, generators, boilers, and other mechanical equipment.
- Carrying out routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the ship's systems.
- Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions or breakdowns in the ship's machinery.
- Operating and controlling the ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems during navigation and cargo operations.
- Collaborating with other crew members to plan and execute maintenance and repair work.
- Keeping accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on the ship's machinery.
- Complying with all regulatory requirements related to the operation and maintenance of the ship's machinery.
The ideal candidate for a QMED position should have a strong technical background in marine engineering and a working knowledge of diesel engines, boilers, and other shipboard machinery. They should also be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, and possess strong problem-solving skills.

- Must be a US citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship
