Job description

The ETO is accountable for the safe, efficient and cost-effective maintenance and operations of the vessels electrical and electronic systems. To explore initiatives and develop processes, procedures, techniques and relationships to enhance company's operations capability in line with our HSEQ policies.
Responsibilities:

• Carry out all planned and any breakdown maintenance on all electrical and electronic equipment onboard the vessel.
• Report to the Chief Engineer on spare parts used.
• Liaise with the Chief Engineer to ensure an availability of spares and equipment required for vessel operations.
• Fully understand when electrical works can be and should be carried out in a safe and sensible manner.
• Liaise with the Chief Engineer and other vessel crew to ensure that all at all time works are coordinated under the instruction of the Chief Engineer.
• Maintain essential electrical services in the case of a vessel emergency.
• Ensure that proper electrical records are kept.
• Ensure that electrical and electronic equipment are in a condition complying with the applicable regulations.
• Provide technical and operational advice to other departments regarding the electrical capabilities of the vessel.
• Provide electrical operational support and advice to clients, third parties and other departments regarding the electrical capabilities of the vessels.
• Ensure that testing, effective maintenance, replacements to systems and components are carried out with reference to manufacturers approved operation and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure that all client and third-party equipment meets vessel electrical safety standards.
• Assist with the development of operations and maintenance philosophies, strategies and procedures.
• Ensure that the vessel permit to work system is operated in a diligent manner and that the methodology of the permit to work system is fully understood.
• Cooperate and contribute to Toolbox Talks and Task Risk Assessments and ensure that these are carried out, wherever appropriate.
• Assist in identifying, developing and sharing company Best Practices across the vessels.
• Have appropriate understanding of the vessels current Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Maintain the highest standard of vessel housekeeping within area of responsibility.

 

Job requirements

• Related technical qualification, minimum H.N.C or Qualified ETO (Unlimited) STCW
• Preferably a minimum of five years ship operations and/or maintenance experience, at least two of which in Electrical maintenance offshore or marine including electronics and fault finding/trouble shooting.
• Alternatively, in place of 2 above – a substantial track record and proof of performance in a similar position.
• Experience of DP Maintenance.
• Experience with jacking systems desirable.
• Excellent command of the English language both spoken and written.
• Excellent knowledge of vessel electrical and electronic operations and maintenance.
• Good knowledge of operations and planned maintenance systems & maintenance KPI’s.
• Numerate with the ability to interpret technical drawings, documents & management reports.
• Good communication skills in a business environment.
